After losing her parents and sister by the age of 10, Alyona Eakes moved to an orphanage in Ukraine where she received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift. She described it as a "chest of gold" because everything smelled new and it contained a stuffed lamb which she loved. "The shoebox gave me a little extra hope," she said.
